Build Your Tribe: How Supportive Relationships Strengthen Leadership and Resilience

When speaking to Nora Miller, President of Mississippi University for Women, on my "Empowering Women in Educational Leadership" October 25th episode, she said that in a leadership position, it can be very lonely. She recommends that you “Build Your Tribe” of key individuals you can turn to for advice and guidance.

In life, we often find ourselves facing challenges and uncertainties that leave us feeling overwhelmed and unsure of how to proceed. While having a reliable network of friends and colleagues is valuable, there's something equally important, building your tribe. This tribe is made up of go-to people who exist outside your immediate network but can offer fresh perspectives, guidance, and support when you need it most. In this blog, we'll explore the significance of having such a tribe and how it can help you navigate uncharted waters with grace.

Diverse Perspectives for Uncharted Waters

Your immediate network typically consists of people you interact with regularly—colleagues, friends, and family. While they provide essential support and insights, they may share similar perspectives and experiences.
