Abby’s Journey: From Faculty to Confident Leader

When we talk about leadership growth, it’s easy to focus on titles — the promotions, the achievements, the next big milestone. But true leadership is less about the position you hold and more about the transformation that happens within you along the way.

This is the story of Abby, one of my mentees who completed the Exponentially Elevate Your Leadership Impact Mentorship Journey.


Her experience reminds us that leadership isn’t about knowing it all — it’s about believing in who you are, trusting your purpose, and embracing growth through change.

Stepping Up: From Comfort to Courage

When I first met Abby, she was a talented and passionate faculty member. Her classroom was full of energy, creativity, and connection. Teaching was her comfort zone, and she thrived in it.

But when her department chair retired unexpectedly and she was asked to step in temporarily, she hesitated. “I’m not ready,” she told me.


I smiled and said what I often tell my mentees: “You don’t have to be ready — you just have to be willing.”

That willingness became her first act of courage.


Her “temporary” leadership assignment turned into a defining moment — not because of the title, but because she started to see her own potential in a new light.

Stepping In: Aligning Passion with Purpose

Abby enrolled in my mentorship program, now entitled Exponentially Elevate Your Leadership Impact Mentorship Journey, soon after taking the role. She wanted tools, guidance, and clarity to navigate her new position — but what she truly gained was confidence.

Through the program, Abby learned to lead with authenticity rather than imitation. She discovered her natural leadership strengths: compassion, communication, and calm under pressure.


She practiced the art of reflection, understood her emotional intelligence, and embraced positive conflict management.

As she shared during one of our sessions, “I’m realizing I don’t need to lead like anyone else. I just need to lead like me.

Once Abby aligned her leadership with her purpose — empowering others to grow — she became unstoppable. She began mentoring her own team, creating an environment of trust, collaboration, and accountability.

Stepping Forward: Leading with Confidence

Confidence doesn’t appear overnight. It’s built through experience, feedback, and self-awareness — and Abby embodied that process.

By the end of her mentorship journey, she no longer second-guessed her decisions. She spoke with conviction, made thoughtful choices, and navigated challenges with grace.

When she officially earned the title of Director, I couldn’t have been prouder. She had not only achieved a professional milestone — she had grown into a leader who inspires confidence in others.

Her transformation was a living example of what it means to exponentially elevate your leadership impact.

The Lesson: Growth Is a Process, Not a Promotion

Abby’s journey reflects what I call the “Step Forward” phase of The Leadership Dance — the moment where intention meets action, and courage transforms into confidence.

Her story is a reminder that leadership isn’t about waiting until you feel ready. It’s about saying yes to growth, even when it feels uncertain.
